도시, 시간을 엮다 / Weaving the City, Weaving Time 

 

나는 동일한 공간 안에서 변화하는 시간의 흐름을 ‘시간의 축적’이라는 주제 아래 수많은 타일(Tile)로 분리하고, 이를 하나의 화면 위에 정교하게 엮어 나간다. 도시의 고층 빌딩군과 하늘, 야경의 빛을 기하학적 격자로 해체하고 재조합함 으로써, ‘하나의 도시’ 속에 존재하는 무수한 시간의 조각들을 한 화면 안에 다층적으로 공존시킨다. 

도시는 고정된 정물이 아니라 시간의 흐름에 따라 끊임없이 변모하는 가변적 존재다. 새벽의 차가운 여명, 한낮의 선명 한 굴곡, 석양의 황금빛, 그리고 밤의 화려한 미등이 담긴 프레임들은 격자 구조 속에서 서로 다른 시간의 결을 이룬다. 작가는 이 파편화된 타일들이 유기적인 관계를 맺도록 규칙적으로 맞물리게 배치한다. 건물의 벽면과 하늘의 색채가 격 자상에서 부딪히며 연출하는 시각적 율동감은 평면적 기록을 넘어 하나의 입체적인 ‘시간의 큐브’를 완성한다. 

특히 해체와 재구성의 과정을 거친 화면 속 건축물들은 여러 각도의 시점과 서로 다른 시간의 표정을 한 화폭 위에 정교 하게 담아낸다. 좌우로 확장된 파노라마 형태의 유기적 연결과 서울 도심의 다채로운 풍경들은 단순한 도시의 외형을 넘어, 시간이 켜켜이 스며든 입체적 시공간으로 거듭난다. 격자로 쪼개진 타일들이 인접한 다른 시간의 조각과 부딪히 며 연출하는 균열과 조화는, 도시가 거대한 시간의 필름이자 수많은 순간들이 얽혀 만든 파편적 결합체임을 시각적으로 증명한다. 

이렇듯 도시를 바라보는 다채로운 시선을 하나의 화면 속으로 조화롭게 엮어내는 방식을 통해, 낮과 밤의 대비, 스쳐 지 나가는 순간과 변함없이 남을 영원이라는 상반된 두 시간성은 경계 없이 매끄럽게 융합된다. 파편화된 타일들이 모여 다시 하나의 ‘입체적 도시’로 응축되는 이 작업은, 도시가 지닌 시간의 총량을 새로운 구조로 정립하는 과정이다. 

우리는 서로 다른 시간의 조각들이 촘촘히 엮인 타일 사이에서, 단일한 시점을 넘어 입체적으로 확장하는 도시의 다채 로운 시공간을 마주하게 될 것이다.

Within a single space, I divide the changing flow of time into countless tiles under the theme of the “accumulation of time,” and intricately weave them into a single pictorial surface. By deconstructing and recomposing the city’s clusters of high-rise buildings, the sky, and the lights of the nightscape into a geometric grid, I allow innumerable fragments of time existing within “one city” to coexist in multilayered form within a single image. The city is not a fixed still life, but a mutable entity that continuously transforms according to the flow of time. Frames containing the cold dawn light of early morning, the sharp contours of midday, the golden glow of sunset, and the brilliant lights of night each form distinct temporal textures within the grid structure. These fragmented tiles are arranged in a regular interlocking system so that they establish an organic relationship with one another. The visual rhythm created as building facades and the colors of the sky collide across the grid goes beyond flat documentation, completing a three-dimensional “cube of time.” In particular, the architectural forms within the image, having undergone processes of deconstruction and reconstruction, precisely contain multiple viewpoints and the different expressions of time on a single canvas. The organic continuity of the horizontally extended panorama and the diverse scenery of central Seoul transcend the city’s outward appearance, reemerging as a three-dimensional space-time in which layers of time have deeply permeated. The cracks and harmonies produced as grid-divided tiles encounter adjacent fragments of other times visually demonstrate that the city is both a vast film of time and a fragmentary assemblage woven from countless moments. In this way, through a method of harmoniously weaving multiple perspectives on the city into a single image, contrasting temporalities day and night, fleeting moments and the eternity that endures are seamlessly fused without boundary. As fragmented tiles gather and condense once more into a single “three-dimensional city,” this work becomes a process of reconstituting the totality of time contained within the city into a new structure. Among these densely interwoven tiles of different times, we are invited to encounter the city’s richly expanding space-time beyond a singular point of view.
