Closed System

The city is a structure composed of countless boundaries and frames. Exterior walls, windows, panels, and modules create order through repetition, and within this system we move and remain along predetermined paths. Here, “closure” does not mean isolation or oppression. Rather, it is a condition that defines space and gives form. Boundaries are the basic mechanism through which the city functions as a system. 
I take these boundaries as the starting point of my work. Extracting architectural elements as if removing fragments from a building, I rearrange them on the surface of the image. Through repetition and pattern, physical space gradually dissolves, and the city is reduced to a formal language. The regularity of window frames and walls becomes rhythm rather than function, and structure transforms into image. 
Yet the boundaries within the frame are not rigidly sealed. Pastel tones and softened color planes ease the stiffness of urban symbols, and repeated modules shift from instruments of restriction to playful order. In the work, the “frame” is not a device that confines, but a unit that opens perception. 
Vertical and horizontal structures, along with the empty central space, reveal both the closed nature of the city and the possibility of openness within it. While recognizing the boundaries that shape the urban system, I bring them into the realm of color and abstraction to rewrite them. The familiar surface of the city begins to be read anew, inviting a different sensory and emotional experience.
