Rather than recording the landscape as it appears, I became more interested in how vision wavers at the moment of looking. Within the image, nature is no longer a clearly defined subject. Its forms seep into and overlap one another, condensing into a single density. The gaze loses any fixed place to rest, drifting through the image until, at a certain moment, it is drawn toward the center. In this process, how one comes to see becomes more important than what is being seen. The subject gradually recedes into obscurity, while traces of sensation and the movement of the gaze remain upon the surface. At that point, I seek the moment when the image moves beyond representation and begins to reveal sensation itself.
